Treeology

I can imagine
between the branches
of phylogenetic foliage
and beneath leafy treetops,
tiny theropods flit around
a tyrannosaur, which lazes in dappled sun—
the way I do.
I can also imagine
between the branches
of hereditary lineage,
Eliza McElroy and her children
dreaming of a faraway homeland
with inexplicable fire in bone—
the way I do.

Aisling “Ash” Rowan is a bird buff, general enthusiast, and aspiring fossil, who advocates for fully-inclusive celebration of the infinitely diverse ways of being human. Describing themself as “liminally Mormon,” Ash strives to emulate the devoted discipleship and radical kindness of Fred Rogers, and seeks Truth and light wherever it may be found. Ash Rowan currently lives with their spouse and sprogs in the valleys of Utah, where magpies sing about home.
